Despite numerous health benefits and sweet taste, the custard apple remains unknown to European consumers. Thus, in order to raise the awareness, Protected Designation of Origin was created almost twenty years ago in the main producing regions in Europe, namely the Tropical Coast of Granada which is in Andalusia, Spain. It definitely has helped in terms of marketing targeting the importing countries in EU market, but there is still room for export volume to increase.
Meanwhile, Granada annually produces around 50,000 MT and exports less than 20% to Portugal, Germany, France, and smaller amount to Belgium and The Netherlands.
