The Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, signed this Tuesday (11) Normative Instruction 52 that recognizes the states of Acre, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Rondônia as free from foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination, as well as parts of Mato Grosso and Amazonas. The standard will be valid from September 1st.
The block is the first in the calendar defined by the Strategic Plan of the National Program for the Eradication and Prevention of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (PNEFA). The states had to comply with strict rules to guarantee the efficiency of the herd's health and agricultural inspection with the withdrawal of vaccination.
The next step is the communication from the states to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) that will evaluate and, if all goes well, the proposal for international recognition should be evaluated by the member countries in May 2021.
In the country, only the state of Santa Catarina has had health status since 2007. IN 52 submits the entry of cattle and buffaloes in these regions to specific rules, such as the prohibition on the entry and incorporation of vaccinated animals and the transit through specific routes previously established when they are destined to other States, with the exception of direct destination for slaughter or export. In the state of Santa Catarina, the rules defined in the free zone must be observed.
