Turkish importers of skipjack tuna have raised concerns about high histamine levels in recent imports from India, surpassing the 30ppm limit upon arrival. This issue has led to financial losses for the importers, as the affected raw materials cannot be utilized for further production, resulting in wasted cargo. In response, the importers are urging Indian exporters to reduce their histamine tolerance to 20 ppm, a challenging target for the land-frozen catch in India. With this dilemma, importers are now exploring alternative sources that can provide sea-frozen skipjack tuna, offering a lower possibility of histamine presence.
