Export offer prices of sesame seed from the Maiduguri region of Nigeria have been higher than those of other producing regions over the past few months. This is believed to be due to importation from neighboring countries as Maiduguri borders some west African producing countries like Chad, Cameroon, and Niger. Grain merchants tend to import beforehand, store in warehouses, and sell in periods when the previous harvest of Nigerian sesame is depleted or when new crop is yet to be harvested.
