The harvests of fresh strawberries are performing well in 2022, driven by the high temperatures of May. The strawberries are abundant but because of the high temperatures, everything is ripening at once, overwhelming the capacity to harvest, in addition, the fruits are too small and not sweet enough. The plant doesn’t have its vegetative rest and the fruit, therefore, doesn’t have time to grow and take on flavor during the day, but also at night. The color of the strawberry is not intense red but rather maroon red. This is why the prices are 20% lower than the average over the last five years. Moreover, supermarkets refuse overripe strawberries as they require solid fruit that can hold up to transport and keep for a few days.
