In 2021, Thailand imported 724 thousand mt of tuna, with a total import value of $194.7 million, which decreased 27.8% compared to 2020. Imported tuna in Thailand comes from two main sources: Firstly, 90% of total import supply is from tuna agents / brokers. The main agents are FCF, Tri Marine, and Itochu. They have subsidiaries in Thailand. Their target customers are the small-medium processors. Secondly, 10% of tuna is imported directly from fishing fleets, which then mainly goes to major processors. There are around 20 companies which import directly. Most of them are the main players in the market: TUF, Unicord, Sea Value, Chotiwat, among others.
