Honduras was hit by two strong hurricanes Iota and Eta recently. The region is now accounting for losses in its coffee plantations. The country is one of the largest producer and exporter of coffee in Central America and the estimates suggest the region may experience a loss of up to 10% in its production. According to the local producers' association, about 15% of the roads that give access to coffee plantations were damaged. Any delay in recovering access can result in a loss of over 460K bags, in addition to the 120 thousand that have already been lost. More than 185 municipalities in 14 major coffee-producing provinces reported damage to its bridge and roads. Many farmers lost their homes and mills were destroyed. Production in Honduras has dropped from record levels this decade amid falling coffee prices.
