The Chilean government has implemented a prohibition on the capture of "Mackerel" (Scomber japonicus), allowing only "Mackerel" (Trachurus murphyi) to be caught. However, both species often swim together, making it impractical to enforce this distinction. Consequently, there have been protests urging the government to reconsider this policy. In response, there has been a rise in the illegal trade of "Mackerel," with catches going undeclared and potentially sold at lower prices. This activity occurred in small coves along the coast, primarily to meet demand in the domestic market.
