Imports of citrus from Argentina and Uruguay have been marginal compared to other years due to the extensive amount of Egyptian Orange in the market yet around 1,200 mt. The lowest wholesale price of Egyptian Valencia seen this week was BRL 25/15kg box (USD 4.89/15kg box) on class 1, caliber 40-48. This low price on Valencia is pushing down prices of all citrus in the market. Uruguay has started offering the Navel oranges at the beginning of their season with a price around USD 13-12/15kg box, calibers 36-56, cat1, FCA. However, the prices are as low as USD 8/box on the same product. Uruguayan mandarins (Clemenvilla variety) started the season with USD 9-9.50/9 or 10kg box on calibers 45-60, cat 1, FCA. By week 23, prices have gone down to USD 7.5/box. Importers have brought in mandarins at the beginning of the season, but due to low sales, some importers are not buying them directly, and those importers are importing a whole mixed truck load of citrus; navel oranges, mandarins, small mandarins, and even some lemon. The mixed truckload is to have an only a small volume of each product since the market has been so quiet.
