Sesame production in Uganda is getting more and more attention from key stakeholders in the value chain. Researchers from both the public and private sectors have developed new higher yielding varieties replacing traditional lower yielding varieties. One variety already released for commercial production is Sesim II and III which yields up to 800kg/ha as compared to traditional varieties which yield between 350 and 400kg/ha. This development of new varieties will positively impact the production of over 250,000 sesame farmers in the country.
