In 2021, the amount of Brazil imported fresh garlic, 125,700/mt, decreased by 35% compared to 2020. However, Brazil's domestic yields increased from 132,000/mt to 168,100/mt. Data is from Brazil CONAB. This is the first time that domestic yields volume is over imported volume in the past 5 years.
Due to high sea freight and limited containers, in 2021, Brazil imported 76,000/mt from Argentina and only imported 44,700/mt from China, the volume from China declined by 76.8%, compared to 193,000/mt in 2020.
In the past years, Brazil was the second largest buyer of China's fresh garlic, the first was Indonesia(annual 600,000/mt), and Vietnam was in the third place(annual 120,000/mt).
