The Indian Government Set the Export Quota for Sugar at 6M MT for the First Tranche of the 2022-2023 Season

India is the World’s biggest producer of sugar and second largest exporter. The Indian Government has lifted the ban on sugar exports. Forecasts indicate that India will have a record-high sugar production in the 2022-2023 season. In the 2021-2022 season, India exported 11M MT of sugar, and for exports this 2022-2023 season (October 2022-September 2023), the Government issued a quota to mills to export 6M MT in the first tranche. It is expected that after a few months, the Indian Government might add a quota after checking on the production status and domestic demand.
