In 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Trade estimated that Indonesia would need 4.606.554 MT and only 1.528.653 MT could be fulfilled by the national production. Hence, the Indonesian government has allocated quota for salt import to fulfill the gap. This condition is also predicted to be happening again in 2022. Moreover, the salt can only be imported by certain manufacturing companies.
