According to three major zucchini growers of the central area of Sinaloa, it has been informed that they have been delaying the harvest of the Summer squash as long as possible until prices respond to the decrease of volume and quality of neighboring state, Sonora. The Sinaloa production window starts around the first days of November on a regular season. This has not changed much in the last couple of years, however, Sonora has been extending the production window every year, shortening that of Sinaloa. In a moment, due to cold weather, production of Sonora will be stopped while Sinaloa will continue. The same applies to Cucurbita items like squash and melons. This delay in the entry point of Sinaloa will affect both price, and quality of markets, as production of older crops is labeled as new fresh season, affecting Sinaloa growers at the early stage of their season.
