Iran has banned all exports of edible vegetable oils since July 2018 and the regulation is still in action. The country imports over 1 million tons of crude vegetable oil annually, mainly from Russia, Ukraine, Argentina, Brazil, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The export ban is to ensure there are no edible vegetable oil shortages in the domestic market. The Iranian government has allotted 14 Billion US$ to subsidize certain staple food items including vegetable oils.
