The Kagera Cooperative Union in Tanzania has urged farmers to increase coffee production to take advantage of increasing global demand, which is forecast to rise sharply in 2024. Weather forecasts indicate that the world will face coffee shortages for an ‘unprecedented’ third year in a row due to lower-than-expected harvests from top grower Brazil. Kagera farmers produce Robusta coffee which constitutes 60% of the total coffee production in the country. Tanzania has a strategic plan aimed at increasing coffee production in the country from 78K MT to 300K MT by 2025.
