New Zealand Kiwifruit Industry Forecasted to Lose USD 253M this Year

New Zealand is seeing the worst quality kiwifruit in 20 years. This season kiwifruit is bland, soft, stained, or rotten. The low-quality fruit is causing losses of USD 1.71 per 3.6kg tray of SunGold kiwifruit, which will create an approximate annual loss of USD 170.5M with the local production of about 100M trays. In addition, producers are facing losses of USD 1.19 per 3.6kg tray of Green kiwifruit, generating an annual loss of USD 82.8M for the approximate 70M trays produced. Altogether, the kiwifruit industry in New Zealand will face losses of over USD 253M this year.
