Kenyan Government Lifts Ban on GMO Food and Animal Feed Products

On the 3rd of October 2022, the Kenyan government lifted a ban imposed on GMO food and animal feed products. The Government of Kenya has always maintained a hard stance on growth and imports of genetically modified food and animal feeds out of safety concerns. This move comes amid high inflation and food shortages caused by severe drought and high input costs leading to high commodity cost. The government lifted the ban in an effort to increase yields, reduce the cost of food, and ensure food security in Kenya.
