The price of mandarin orange from North Sumatra is almost 30% more expensive than imported fruit from China. But, local consumers consider the local fruit to be tastier and sweeter. This uncompetitive price is an obstacle to making the local mandarin oranges an export commodity so that can only focus on distribution in the local market. Mandarin oranges from the North Sumatra region are almost always available throughout 2022, but the peak harvest takes place around March or April 2023.
