Typically, the shipping duration from Egypt to Vietnam is around 30 days annually. However, the shipping period in 2024 has been extended to approximately 50 days due to fluctuations in the Red Sea area. Consequently, upon docking in Vietnam, many containers of Egyptian oranges were found to be rotten, emitting unpleasant odors, and exhibiting soft textures. Numerous importers expressed dissatisfaction with the prolonged shipping times, uncertain of how much longer they would persist. Consequently, they temporarily stopped importing Egyptian oranges and imported American oranges instead. In Apr-24, Egyptian oranges are sold at wholesale markets for approximately USD 16 per 15-kilogram (kg) carton but receive minimal attention.
