Cachoeira do Sul (RS) extra virgin olive oil producer has just received the award for best olive oil in the Southern Hemisphere. The distinction was announced last Wednesday (7/29), at the L’Orciolo d'Oro Competition, held in Pesaro, Italy. The award is the most traditional in the country and one of the most respected in the world.
In addition to the awards for its olive oils, the producer also received the Giuseppe Fontanazza Critical Award, a special distinction awarded to an innovative olive-growing entrepreneur in the cultivation of Italian olives.
L'Orciolo d'Oro is the world's first professional competition dedicated to extra virgin olive oil. Since 1991, the jury has always been composed exclusively of professional tasters. The 2020 edition of the contest brought together three groups in which the olive oil samples were classified according to the intensity of the fruit.
The oils are then classified into three categories: Soft Fruity, Medium Fruity and Intense Fruity, with only three oils awarded per category. The specimens of the Brazilian company won in the Medium Fruity category, guaranteeing the first and third places for couple of its blends.
The production of 800 liters put the company as the first producer in Brazil to be included in the Flos Olei, a catalog that gathers the best 500 olive oils in the world.
