Low demand and abundant availability drive down the wholesale prices for apples in India

At present, all the apple importers in India are suffering due to the low demand in the domestic market due to cold weather conditions throughout the country coupled with the abundant availability of cheaper apples from Iran and Northern parts of India like Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Iranian apples have flooded the domestic markets and driven down the prices for all other origins. Many of the importers have been forced to sell their stock at losses due to the limited shelf life of the product. This situation is expected to persist till March 2022 till the cold storage stocks of Indian and Iran apples. The current average wholesale prices are in the range of USD 22-28 per 18kg box for the gala and delicious red varieties of apples.
