The Minister of Agriculture, Maria do Céu Antunes, presented at Agroglobal the plan 'Terra Futura - Innovation Agenda for Agriculture 20 | 30'. A broad spectrum initiative that aims to guide the sector's strategy and policies.
The agenda, designed for ten years, has five objectives that include more health, inclusion, income and a better future. In health, the intention is to increase the level of adherence to the Mediterranean Diet by 20%; the second goal is to install 80% of new young farmers in low density areas. In terms of income, the idea is to increase the value of agri-food production by 15% and the ‘future’ goal is ambitious: to achieve more than half of the agricultural area under recognized sustainable production regimes. Finally, with more innovation, the minister intends to increase investment in research and development by 60%.
The Minister of Agriculture also highlighted the importance of the agricultural sector and said that the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics show that “between January and July 2020, exports in agriculture increased by 5% compared to the same period in 2019.
