Due to the lower expected sweet cherry harvest in Italy this year, the country is expected to import products from other countries. Possible supplying countries can be Turkey, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Moldova.
Cherry producers from Moldova say that importing products to Italy will be a good opportunity for them, but will be complicated by some factors. First, they will need new equipment, such as cherry hydro cooling, optical sorting of berries, modified atmosphere bags (MAP). Second, they will need packaging and logistics experience in accordance with the EU requirements. Third, the supplier should have full traceability of the origin of the goods and cherry producers should have the Global GAP certification.
