The 2022 Australian asparagus season was delayed slightly due to heavy rain in W39. Japan, one of Australia's largest markets, has opted to import Mexican asparagus this season, dropping their imports from Australia and causing an oversupply in the Australian market and lower prices at USD 5.18–5.83/kg in W40 despite being high in quality. Since logistics and labor shortages continue to be a foreseeable issue for fulfilling orders on time, some growers are considering not harvesting due to the oversupply.
