Bean Prices to Remain in an Upward Trend in Tanzania at the Beginning of 2023

A survey of various grain and bean markets in Dar es Salaam City namely Tandika, Gongo la Mboto, and Buguruni, showed that the highest bean grade fetches an average price of between USD 1.54-1.80/kg. Two years ago, the price of the same grade beans stood at around USD 0.64/kg. It is difficult for consumers to purchase beans at the current price, as income remains unchanged. The price rise is attributed to the opening of the borders for trade, whereby most of the grain is exported.
