There is a year-round production of mangoes in the Dominican Republic. However, the European and US export season is scheduled to start on the 15th of May until mid-September as Brazil and Peru start to wind down. Exports consist predominantly of the red mango (Keith variety) which accounts for most of the red mango production. Close to 50% of the national production goes in vessels to European ports. Since the month of February, there's also been the production of national yellow varieties (Mingolo) which are similar in color, consistency, and sweetness to the Mexican Ataulfo. Due to the high content of sugar, the yellow varieties are mostly air shipped to US markets, but also available for exports to Europe.
