Mango market remains extremely volatile

This season is not like the previous ones for the mango market in France. Many factors have added up to create an instability rarely seen. Along with an increase in the volume exported by Peru to Europe this season (approximately 30% more), there are also problems at the logistic level, which has caused numerous delays in the ship arrivals in Europe.

Consequently, a yo-yo effect is taking place. Stocks for specific sizes are moving fast (size 10er, for example) and the sales value of these sizes. At the beginning of WK 5, the prices were between EUR 2.00 and EUR 4.00 euros per box; at the end, the values have risen to levels around EUR 4.75 – EUR 5.00 per box. This has been caused by significant delays in the transit of ships between Peru and Europe. The vessels will arrive in Europe in the middle of WK 6 massively (our source mentioned around 450 containers arriving in Europe between WK 6 and WK 7), pushing prices down again and again generating an oversupply in the market.
