As floodwaters completely submerge hundreds of hectares of soybean, rice, cane, and macadamia farms, farmers in northern New South Wales are anticipating the loss of their entire crops. As they were about to begin their harvest in the macadamia sector, the nuts that fell from their trees and onto the ground had been lost within the floodwaters.

The Northern Rivers macadamia crops make up about 36% of the national crop, usually worth more than USD 100 million. Just 10% of the Northern Rivers crop that had already fallen and swept away makes up about USD 10 million.
