According to the latest forecast of the Center for Agri-Policy Analysis (CAPA) the tomato production is estimated to be higher by 2%. The country is expected to have 148 KMT by the end of 2020 and the increase is attributed to wider use of greenhouses in tomato production.
On the other hand, fresh pepper production is expected to be lower by 5% in the current year compared to the record-breaking production increase by 20% in 2019. Pepper cultivation is dominated by open-field farming and this is one of the main reasons for the production output fluctuations each year.
The farmgate prices in July for tomatoes are reported to be around €0,55 per kg while the wholesale prices were around €0,70 per kg.
