Moroccan berry prices have lost competitiveness in the Middle East market due to the high freight cost. The shipping cost from Morocco to the Middle East has risen sharply even after the Moroccan government decided to reopen borders and resume flights in early February 2022. The air freight difference between Spain and Morocco to the same destination has reached over USD 1.00 per kg. This situation has disadvantaged the Moroccan export by air, pushing the Moroccan growers to only focus on the EU market.
