Mozambique is currently awaiting the announcement of a contract renewal with the Indian government for the pigeon pea exports to India, expected to last about 5 years. The agreement is expected to allow and exportation of a total of 500 thousand tons of pigeon peas. For the past decade, India has been Mozambique's biggest importer of pigeon peas. This reduction of the need for imports from Mozambique results from an increase in the local production of pigeon peas in India.
