The Maputo Cargo Terminal in Mozambique was officially opened during W20, providing an alternative port for South African citrus exports. As part of the infrastructure, the Maputo Terminal has three cold stores and further facilities in the port that are suited for the handling of citrus fruit for export. With the opening of the terminal, South African producers and exporters can utilise the facility for shipments to markets such as the Middle East, Asia and Far East. As South Africa's citrus volumes have increased considerably, the Maputo Terminal facility bodes well as an alternative port, and possibly alleviate congestion at the main citrus export port of Durban in South Africa.
