MARDI (Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute) has successfully produced a new variety of sweet potatoes called 'Lembayung' which is expected to increase productivity by 25% compared to other varieties. Sweet potato cultivation in the past was not very widespread because it was said not to bring high profits and low productivity. It is expected that, with increased productivity, this can also attract more growers to grow sweet potatoes commercially.
