Leading up to Lent Season, the local supply of halibut, pollock, and cod, twice frozen, lightly treated fish, is tight. Distributors are seeing 20% growth year over year on the value-added fish. The raw material supply is recovering in China, but most plants are still not operating at total capacity with Covid-19 restriction. There are rumors that Russian fisheries may be removed from the MSC label. This will force processors to only buy Canadian/Alaskan/Pacific raw material and put much more pressure on cod, halibut, and pollock. The pacific halibut fishery is underway this week, and boat prices will be established next week.
