Victoria and Black Magic seeded grapes from the Chalkidiki region of Greece are being received with hesitation by the European market. Starting offer prices of 1,10€/kg for Victoria and 1,20€/kg for Black Magic EXW have not received any response yet.
More expensive seedless varieties seem to dominate German and British retail chains, leaving space for seeded grapes in Eastern Europe markets. However, the lower levels of income in these countries are expected to push prices down. Italian seeded grapes, due to their reputation, seem to penetrate Europe’s markets in a more efficient way. Producers had high expectations for the prices of seeded grapes in 2022. After hail destroyed 80% of Victoria production during June in the Kavala area, the shortage of produce is intense but neither the local market or exporters are expressing demand for seeded grapes. Before entering August, the prices may drop, which will be a bad starting point for the seeded varieties for the 2022 season.
