Thailand Emerged as China's Top Fruit Exporter in 2023

On February 15, 2024, the Agriculture Department of the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Office of Agricultural Affairs in Guangzhou, China, released a summary of imported fruits. China, the second-largest fruit importer globally after the United States (US), saw Thailand emerge as its largest fruit exporter in 2023. Imports of fruits and nuts (Customs Tariff 08) from Thailand to China exceeded USD 7.056 billion, securing a 37% market share and making Thailand China's top trading partner in this category. Chile followed in second place with a 17% market share, with a USD 3.210 billion value, and Vietnam ranked third with a 16% market share, with a USD 3.066 billion value. The top five Thai fresh fruits imported by China in 2023 were durian, with an import volume of 928.9 thousand tons accounting for 40% of the total fruit imports, followed by young coconuts with 589.2 thousand tons, with 26% market share, fresh longan with 327.2 thousand tons, with 14% market share, mangosteen (207 thousand tons, with a 9% market share, and pomelos with 18.8 thousand tons, with 1% market share.
