The government of Indonesia through its Ministry of Agriculture has recently passed on the bills to open up new plantation lands for the production of konjac that would cover a total area of 1000 hectares in the Southern Sulawesi region. The opening of the new plantation lands in this region is part of the effort to improve the production output of Konjac, considering the growing interest for this commodity from overseas buyers from South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong. It is expected that by the end of 2020, the newly open plantations would be able to have a productivity of around 150 MT/hectare. In the future, the government expects that a processing facility for fresh konjac can be built for every 1000 hectares of land in the area so that the exporters in this region can also export processed konjac aside from the fresh ones, as diversification is also important to keep the business sustainable.
