Orange fleshed sweet potato (OFSP) is in high demand in Kenya but is in low supply due to reduced output in the main production regions in the Western counties. This has resulted in OFSP prices jumping from USD 0.12/kg in 2021 to USD 0.29/kg in W39 of 2022. Dried chip prices have also increased from USD 1.00/kg in 2021 to USD 1.67/kg in W39 of 2022. OFSP has become popular in Kenya due to its health benefits. Its flour and puree is used in cake and bread baking as a substitute for wheat.
