As the sunflower lecithin supply took a significant hit due to the Russia-Ukraine war, many buyers shifted to soy lecithin as a replacement which caused Turkish soy lecithin prices to skyrocket in 3 months and nearly doubled the going rate. In order to keep up with the increasing demand, suppliers also started to crush and process peanuts, which resulted in an influx of peanut-contaminated soy lecithin products entering the market. This situation creates a major concern for buyers as peanuts are a highly dangerous allergen product for some consumers. In light of these developments, most buyers of soy lecithin now demand a peanut allergen-free declaration from their suppliers.
