The persimmon market is suffering heavy scarcity due to smaller production both in Italy and Spain. While crops in Spain were affected by torrential rains and the spread of pest cotonet, the production in Italy was heavily affected by hailstorms in spring. The producers have reported a 50% loss in production for this season, especially for the Rojo brillante variety. It has been stated that the Italian persimmon is expected to gain more market share in a moment of weakness of the persimmons from Spain.
