The garlic campaign is starting with good results, until the fortnight of October, 874 tons have been exported (+86% more compared to the same period in 2019). It is expected to continue growing thanks to increasing demand from the main markets.
Peru exports garlic all year around, But it is considered that its campaign goes from October to April. During this time, more than a 1,000 mt are shipped per month.
Mexico, Peru`s second most important destination in 2019 with 32% participation, had import 853 mt during the begining of the season 2020/21. The last month Mexico increased their demand in +15% volume. We need to remember that Mexico is also producer and exporter of garlic, but it`s campaing is complementary to Peru (April to September).
New opportunities are arising in the United States, third most important destination in 2019, with 9% participation. This season Peru had shipped 21 mt during the first two weeks of the campaign. Considering that in 2019 Peru start selling to the US in November, exporters are optimistic. Also, this 2020, the United States has increased its demand in +11% in volume and +42% in value between January and August.
