Peruvian mango growers have endured three consecutive years of low prices, with the average price dropping by 22% to USD 2.32 per kilogram (kg) despite a significant rise in export volumes. Between W35 and W42, fresh mango exports surged by 239% in volume, exacerbating the price drop and making it challenging for farmers to cover production costs. The situation is further strained by the impact of adverse weather in 2023, which left many unable to harvest mangoes. This prolonged downturn has significantly affected growers' livelihoods, particularly those reliant on bank loans to sustain their operations.
