The pineapple season in Costa Rica and Colombia is going on all year long. Canada imports and consumes stable volumes of this fruit. However, the product purchased from Canadian supermarkets is not directly imported from the countries of origin, but from Philadelphia,U.S. Big industry producers such as Del Monte, bring more fruit into the U.S. than the amount they can sell there. The fruit not sold in the country is brought to Philadelphia, where Canadian distributors purchase it with up to a USD 5.00 discount per box. Therefore, the pineapples brought into Canada, instead of being paid between USD 12~14.00 the 12kg box CIF Philadelphia, they are paid between USD 7.00 to USD 9.00 at the same weight, pick up place and Incoterms.
