A recently launched variety in Huelva, originally from Chile, is currently standing out among customers, mainly for its extraordinary color: the “albino” strawberry or white strawberry. This entirely white and small-sized berry only presents some tones of red in its bright seeds, which is very appealing at first glance but also when cut in halves as the inside remains white.

In terms of taste, it boasts a clear flavor of pineapple, which is in fact giving it the nickname “Pineberry”, especially in Japan, where its uniqueness is highly appreciated. A clear way to offer added value and premiumization to the customers, accessible from USD 12.63/kg to USD 9.47/kg for exports. However, the downside for the producers is that any minimal imperfection or bruise will stand out: a high rate of non-conformity for internal/external quality controls is to be expected.
