Pioneering the national olive oil production, RS maintains its growing rate steady

The south state, is responsible to introduce olive trees in Brazil, standing out in national production. Municipalities in the southern half of the state have a favorable edaphoclimatic conditions for fruit development, making the region a prominent producing pole. According to Brazilian Institute of Oliviculture, 75% of the olive oil consumed in Brazil comes from Rio Grande do Sul. There are 35 registered and properly homologated oil brands at this point with great potential for expansion. The state once responsible for 80 hectares in 2006 had increased to more than 6 thousand in 2020, cultivated by more than 300 producers from 65 municipalities. The expectation is that, by 2025, Brazil will have 25,000 hectares planted with olive trees.
