China is expected to produce 41.5 million tonnes of pork (in carcass equivalent) in 2021, according to information released by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Gain Report. The volume should be 9% above the 38 million tons registered this year. To reach this volume, the country must slaughter 505 million pigs, up from the 455 million animals forecast for this year. The forecast is that internal consumption will be 45.1 million tons, 7% above the 42.2 million tons expected to be demanded this year.
