Portugal is the third biggest Carob producer globally, following Spain and Morocco. The entire production is concentrated in the Algarve region, in the Southern part of Portugal, where the number of producers amounts to 10,000. This number reflects the reality of enormous dispersion of the production. In other words, there are too many producers with small productions sites. In this context, the urge of the Carob Producers Association to gain bargain power and negotiate better farmgate prices is crucial. So far, the association has been able to aggregate the capacity of 300 associates.
