Ivory coast as the world's main producer of cocoa beans currently faced a power shortage issue since late April 2021. This is predicted to cause the cocoa grinding output to drop by half in May 2021, from 49,000 tonnes to only 25,000 tonnes. April to September is the mid-harvest for cocoa beans in Ivory Coast when grinders purchase around 80% of the harvested beans. The power shortage will cause a drop in the bean purchase since the remaining stock is moving slowly. Furthermore, it will create additional cost, because grinders need to transport the semi-finished products.
