Paraguay, the main producer of chia worldwide, has had challenges due to frosts. These frosts have affected the harvest and 70% of the production has been lost.

This has caused prices to triple. In 2020, chia was traded at USD 1,300 to 1,500 per MT, and today prices in general are at USD 4,500 to 5,000 per MT.

This problem also occurred to producers from Bolivia and Peru, who have come to Paraguay to carry a large volume of the diminished stock this year, putting even more pressure on the rise in prices.

The next harvest will be for June 2022, and if this situation continues, prices are estimated to continue to rise in the upcoming months.
